Installation

Install the CLI from npm, then verify that the hi binary resolves.

Install the current published CLI from the npm latest tag. Copy the command for the package manager you use.

bun install -g @punks/cli@latest

Verify the binary:

hi --help

Install the hi-cli operator skill so agents can activate $hi-cli when following hi output and generated .devpunks handoffs:

skills add https://github.com/wearedevpunks/skills/tree/main/skills/agnostic/cli/hi-cli --skill hi-cli --global --yes

If skills is not installed as a global command yet, run the same install through the Skills CLI package:

The same package also installs the hint alias:

One-Off Execution

For a temporary run without a global install, copy the command for the package manager you use.

Use the global install for normal Harness operator work. It keeps hi and hint available across repositories and matches the command names used by scaffolded guidance.

Runtime Expectations

hi scaffold may check for global tools such as skills, portless, opensrc, and agent-browser. Missing tools are reported during setup before managed files are written.

hi can run offline with its bundled scaffold baseline. By default it prefers the active stable baseline when reachable and falls back to bundled content when needed. hi update --write and hi update --yes refuse to apply an implicit bundled fallback when the repo manifest records a different baseline version; pass --baseline bundled only when you intentionally want the bundled scaffold content.

Control Plane Usage

The CLI does not require user authentication. Set DP_CONTROL_PLANE_URL only when a run should prefer the Harness API for baseline metadata or telemetry; otherwise the CLI uses the public stable baseline and bundled fallback paths. Reports open GitHub issues through gh auth token, GH_TOKEN, or GITHUB_TOKEN.
